Doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital successfully restored the right hand of a 28-year-old daily wage labourer who lost his limb in a workplace accident. Mr. Ashok suffered a severe accident at his worksite in Bawana on April 7, resulting in the complete detachment of his right hand.

A team of surgeons, led by Dr. Nikhil Jhunjhunwala from the Department of Plastic Surgery, undertook a complex eight-hour surgery to reattach the hand. The intricate procedure involved reuniting broken bones, tendons, nerves, arteries, and veins that were severed during the accident.

Dr. Jhunjhunwalanoted that they regularly perform replantation for finger amputations. However, complete hand amputation is rare and presents a significant challenge due to the complex structures involved, including neurovascular connections.

He stated that following the successful surgery, the patient underwent therapy sessions, displaying exceptional resilience and determination to regain mobility and function in his hand. Within a week, his recovery showed promising progress, with excellent circulation and improved overall health.

Furthermore, he added that the patient was discharged after five days of monitoring and was in stable condition.
