IIT Kanpur has transferred its innovative, portable oral cancer detection device, Munh Parikshak, to Scangenie Scientific for commercial use. The device offers accurate, non-invasive screening with real-time results and cloud storage, making it ideal for widespread adoption and self-testing.
On Tuesday, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur announced the transfer of its portable, non-invasive oral cancer detection device, Munh Parikshak, to the industry for broader adoption and commercial success. Developed by Prof. Jayant Kumar Singh and his team from the Department of Chemical Engineering, the device was transferred to Scangenie Scientific following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the company.
Munh Parikshak is a user-friendly device featuring a white and fluorescent light source that connects wirelessly to smartphones, tablets, and iPads. It includes a built-in power backup, stores health history, and provides instant oral health reports. The device uses special lights and a camera to examine the mouth, categorizing images as normal, pre-cancerous, or cancerous. Results are instantly displayed on a smartphone app and stored on cloud servers for continuous updates.
Offering quick, painless screening with 90% accuracy in clinical settings, Munh Parikshak is radiation-free and does not require additional chemicals or processes, making it a safe and effective tool for self-testing.
