The Meghalaya Health Department is investigating allegations of medical negligence at Jengjal Sub Divisional Hospital after claims that a bandage was left inside a patient during a cesarean section. Authorities have requested a detailed report and urged caution when publishing unverified information.

The Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Department has launched an investigation into a case of alleged medical negligence at Jengjal Sub Divisional Hospital in West Garo Hills District. In a notice dated September 23, Principal Secretary Sampath Kumar requested a detailed report from the Director of Health Services (Maternal Child Health and Family Welfare).

The case concerns a patient from Lower Nengsa, North Garo Hills, who underwent a cesarean section on January 29, 2024, and later suffered severe pain, allegedly due to a bandage left inside her abdomen. While no formal complaint has been lodged, the A'chik State People's Front (ASPF) submitted a memorandum to Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, urging swift action.

The department emphasized the hospital's strong track record in saving lives, particularly during complicated labor cases, and called for a balanced investigation without publishing unverified claims or prematurely naming hospital staff.
